Why They Decided To Divorce

Suki Waterhouse and Robert Pattinson tied the knot in 2014, choosing a relatively intimate wedding venue in London, where the actor-turned-director wed the fashion designer. The couple’s union made headlines around the world, drawing praise from celebrities and everyday people alike.

While the world was captivated by the glamour and glitz of their big day, behind the scenes the couple was experiencing problems. According to a bombshell new interview, conducted by TMZ and published on Tuesday, August 14, 2019, that all was not as perfect as it seemed on the surface. The report alleges that Waterhouse was having an affair with one of her guests, Lenny Kravitz, while Pattinson was allegedly battling intense emotional and drug addiction struggles.

After tying the knot, the pair moved into a $28 million mansion in London’s iconic Kensington Gardens. In June 2019, the mansion’s pool became the site of a nasty brawl that left Kravitz with a broken nose and multiple injuries. A month later, a source told People that the couple were having marital problems and were thinking of divorcing.

The Dirty Details

In the new interview, TMZ addresses several claims made by Waterhouse and Pattinson that they addressed in their legal documents, including the existence of an extramarital affair. According to the publication, Waterhouse has always denied the allegation, but in her legal papers she does not address it directly, instead referring to her husband’s purported infidelity as ‘misconduct’.

During the interview, TMZ claims that Waterhouse is “devastated” over the scandal and is “furious” that she was “blindsided” by the affair. The publication also reports that while Waterhouse alleges that Pattinson is a “vicious and controlling” alcoholic, the divorce documents do not allege any physical abuse. Instead, the petition for divorce alleges that Pattinson is a drug addict who is “unable to provide the necessary care and attention” to their daughter, Matilda. The legal papers further allege that Waterhouse “suffered serious mental health issues” throughout their relationship.

What Is Currently Going On?

Since the publication of the TMZ report, Waterhouse has been in and out of court and has maintained a fairly low profile. On Friday, September 12, 2019, Waterhouse filed a response to the petition for divorce, denying most of the allegations and alleging that the publication is engaged in a “blatant campaign of defamation and character assassination”.

In a statement provided to Variety, a rep for Waterhouse said the allegations made by TMZ are “totally disrespectful and untrue”. According to the publication, Waterhouse also denied having an affair with Kravitz. “This latest allegation from TMZ is nothing more than a complete fabrication,” she said. “I’d also like to add that I was extremely worried about my daughters’ safety when we were in Monaco. There were a lot of unsavory characters who’d been drawn to the villa in which we were staying due to the Prince’s death, and I was continually harassed and threatened.”

While Waterhouse has maintained her innocence and vowed to face the “allegations” head-on, the scandal has still managed to derail her otherwise promising career. The 2019 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was her first major public appearance since the scandal broke and it was evident that she was still struggling to regain the audience’s trust. At the end of the show, as the models were walking down the runway, one member of the audience could be heard saying “I don’t believe a word she said.”

Waterhouse has largely remained out of the spotlight since the scandal broke, only making appearances at smaller events and on social media. In early November 2019, she deleted her Instagram account, which was heavily populated with posts of happy, staged family photos as well as lingerie and swimsuit shots.

When Will This All Be Resolved?

TMZ has not returned requests for comment. According to Page Six, the website claims that the couple has hired celebrity divorce lawyer Sarah McElligott to negotiate the end of their marriage. As of the publication of this article, no further details have been made available.
