More of Robert Pattinson in The Unbound Captives
According to reports Robert Pattinson has signed for an upcoming movie starring Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz titled The Unbound Captives.
Variety described the film as following a woman (Weisz) whose husband is killed and her two children kidnapped by a Comanche war party in 1859. She is rescued by a frontiersman, to be played by Jackman. Pattinson will play the son.
Rob is slated to play the role of Phineas in The Unbound Captives:
*The character is shown first at age 10, then again at approximately 17
*As indicated in information published on the internet, Phineas was kidnapped as a child and assimilated in a Comanche tribe.
*Phineas (all descriptions here are of the character at age 17) is described as having long hair and pierced ears, presumably in the 19th-century Comanche style.
*Virtually all of his lines are in Comanche.
*The character’s Comanche name is Tsomo, which means “bead”.
*Yes, he rides a horse…bareback. He rides quite a bit, actually.
*Although the character does have a few flirtatious scenes, this is not a romantic-type role.
* The older Phineas is in the latter parts of the script, perhaps the last third. It is definitely a supporting role.
* Our source describes the character like this: “Phineas is pretty fierce. He’s been raised as a warrior. He can be silent and standoffish, but he can throw a bit of a fit, too.”
I don’t know… Rob doesn’t look 17 anymore!

Now I am really looking forward to this one!
Rob riding bareback and speaking Comanche… and being a fierce warrior… wow!
I think this is the role he was referring to, when he said he would be playing a character that speaks “a language he doesn’t know”.
This will be interesting. I do like to see him stretching his acting chops. I tried to watch Twilight again last night and I don’t know if it was because I was tired but I wasn’t feeling it. I like Rob, as Rob, and I really wanted to see him, not Edward. I thought about switching it to the commentary version so that I could just hear him. But I wasn’t sure how to explain that to the rest of the room. Hmmm……I’d rather listen to Rob than watch the movie itself.
okay….
@ashley….okay because you’re trying to picture Rob as a Comanche Indian and struggling, as I am?
Or ….okay, because I can’t stop sharing tonight?LOL
I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THIS. HE WILL BE GREAT RIDING A HORSE, AND WITH LONG HAIR. THIS WILL REALLY SHOW HIS GREAT ACTING ABILITY AND I AM GLAD IT IS A SUPPORTING ROLE. THIS MAY TAKE SOME PRESSURE OFF HIM. I AM SURE ALL OF THE CRAZY TWILIGHT TEENS ARE GETTING ON HIS NERVES
why does he keep getting 17 year old roles??? he has been 17 since harry potter…
so this is just perfect: “how long have u been 17?”
I thought he’d be a cowboy, but long-haired Indian and pierced ears, it’s like a fusion of Jacob Black and Jack Sparrow, it’s a huge transformation, no wonder Hugh Jackson said his role was phenomenal. And 17 again, wow, HOW LONG COULD HE BE 17? Can they make him Rachel’s stepson so he could play his real age?
This is some kind of role you couldn’t imagine him doing but if he could pull it off, it’d be like magic and one hell of a stunning performance people couldn’t forget. Sure he’s that kind of actor who just couldn’t resist challenge and outrageous ideas.
@ rae: I know what you mean. It’s the same for me. Edward, in truth, is my least favourite among his characters, so far. I’m hoping New Moon will change that, since it’s both his favourite and mine, too, and hopefully the script will be better. The commentary is just hilarious! I, too, prefer to hear Rob talk rather than Edward! Hahaha!
@ janna: LMAO! Too true! And now he can answer “A while…” with good reason!!! Hopefully, this will be his last role as a 17-year-old
… but anyway, it’s certainly a different kind of 17… compare and contrast:
Zac Efron: “17 Again” no title could be more deserved: yet another plain teenage role (give him that diploma already, or he’ll be in high school until he’s 70, for crying out loud!!!).
Rob Pattinson: “The Unbound Captives” western epic: a boy is abducted by the Comanche at the age of ten. Now, at 17, he speaks their language, rides a horse bareback and is a fierce warrior. Oh, and he does that alongside Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, too. Beat that, Zac.
There’s 17 and 17…
rob keeps getting 17 roles because…well maybe who knows maybe he has the blood of a vampire!
but i can’t wait to see the movie…love rob that much…
I think his movie choice is really smart, an excellent script as reckoned, a supporting role to 2 really good and charismatic actors so he’ll have much less pressure on box office, just concentration on the portrayal, not a romantic role again to be typecasted, a warrior to attract male fanbase, a completely unrecognizable look to shake off the vampire image, an unfamiliar language to show his talent and versatility.
Joey, I couldn’t have said it better.
I agree about supporting actors. So many times they have such an opportunity to shine. They often steal the show in my estimation. A great supporting cast makes such a difference in a quality film. I know Twilight’s not some Oscar worthy film but I did think that Billy Burke was an excellent example of a great supporting cast. He did a nice job, really.
@ rae: that’s exactly what I think. Billy Burke just about saved the movie, for me.
I’m a sucker for a good western, especially the early West, ie Frontiers men, etc. One of best to date was done by Daniel Day Lewis in Last of the Mohicans, love that film, beautiful movie and ironically with Madeline Stowe as his love interest. Kevin Costner did Dances with Wolves and Open Plain, again wonderful films. This is Robs chance to shine, what a different role to play image wise, learn the Comanche languagel, ride a horse, long hair and be bare chested…….I’m impressed!
I agree also with above comments that it’s about time the adult roles come through to Rob. He’s well on the way to becoming one of the most talented British actors to date!
Does anyone know if this script/film is based on a book, so that I can jem up on the story?
estas padrisimo estas super guapo te aMO EDUAR TE AMO
eu amoooo Crepusculo como nunca Robert Thomas Pattinson EU TE AMO *-*!!!!!!!!!
hello he is not seventeen any more but plays a seventeen yr old vamp on twilight … so why not play a seventeen year old kid
Even during this past year Rob has matured in his looks and I would find it difficult to see him as a 17 year old, and also as Rachel Weisz”s son! Wild, longhaired Commanche on horseback? Yes!
