Robert Pattinson ... Who?

Rob and Kristen are engaged. They’re going to name their first child a combination of their mothers’ names, just like in the “Twilight” books. A big wedding is on the way, quite likely with Bigfoot officiating.

As their fame has grown, so has the insanity level of the rumors about their personal lives. On Friday, “New Moon” star Robert Pattinson sat down with MTV News, and was eager to address one of the more notable bits of news he saw the last time he Googled himself.

“I like the story about me being pregnant,” laughed the 23-year-old British heartthrob. “It was in some Australian magazine, on the front page!”

“I was like, ‘Wow, that’s just [insane],’ ” he said of the pregnancy rumors. “And it’s not even ironic.

“New Moon” heartthrob Robert Pattinson takes a bite out of werewolves, explaining why vampires are so much cooler than werewolves in “The Twilight Saga.” Plus, how does he feel about werewolves walking around shirtless all the time?

Robert Pattinson tells Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson about how he hides from fans and how his life has changed from “Twilight” to “New Moon.” But would he let Shaun touch his famous locks? And, why is “New Moon” his favorite book of the series?

Robert Pattinson doesn’t need to show his six-pack, the star joked with Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson at the “New Moon” junket in Los Angeles on Friday.

“I don’t walk around with my shirt off all the time!” he joked, poking fun at the often bare-chested “New Moon” wolf pack. “It’s like driving a fancy car – you’re insecure about something.”

Robert, who plays vampire hunk Edward, said he’s more worried about his famous hair.

“I’ve actually just got rid of my dandruff, which is great,” he laughed.

Jokes aside, Robert was serious when it came to “New Moon,” where he takes a secondary role to Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black.

“It’s my favorite book,” he said, adding that the Stephenie Meyer novel influenced how he approached his performance in the rest of the “Twilight Saga” series as well. “I really connected to [it] really quickly.

“It think it’s an improvement [on ‘Twilight’],” he continued, noting that he was able to make some changes to Edward’s character, being out of the spotlight. “It was nice not being the lead.”

Less nice however, has been dealing with the tabloid rumors that seem to crop up every day, including one that linked Robert to a traffic accident.

“I may have just walked into a cab,” Robert explained. “That was so innocuous – there were no fans there. It was 4:30 in the morning.”

But it was another movie set rumor that scared his dear old mum.

“I had a heroin overdose in New York as well, that was an exciting one for my mother,” he said of another false report. “I’d been working so much, I didn’t answer the phone. I’m so ignorant. I don’t think it had set in that anyone read [the tabloids].”

And while he wouldn’t comment on the rumors swirling about the status of his relationship with co-star Kristen Stewart, Robert did answer an Access fan question about dating older women.

“I’m open to pretty much anything,” he said.

Robert Pattinson may seem like the happy-go-lucky type, but make no mistake—when it comes to his acting career, he rules his destiny with an iron fist.

During a press conference to promote the Twilight sequel New Moon at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills on Friday, the World’s Sexiest Vampire admitted that he has a wee bit of trouble relinquishing control to others. As in, he hates it and avoids doing so at all costs:

“I have very specific ideas about how I want to do my work and how I want to be perceived and when…and to the point of ridiculousness sometimes. I don’t listen to anyone else, that’s why I don’t have a publicist at all, I can’t stand it when someone is telling me how to do something. It’s maybe a mistake sometimes. I like being, meticulous and its difficult as an actor to have that control.”

CANNES, France–There are no crystal decanters of blood for Robert Pattinson to sip from, or milky white virgin necks to nibble upon.

Pattinson’s treats, arrayed before him on a glass table shaped like a kneeling Greek goddess, aren’t your typical vampire fare: a bowl of potato chips, packages of green apple mint gum and a box of See’s chocolates imported from the U.S.

The world’s sexiest undead man eschews all the caloric temptations, apologizing as he nips off to another room for a few drags on a Camel Lights cigarette before commencing this interview.

“I’m sorry!” he says, pausing only to shake hands. “I’ll be right back!”

Pattinson returns a few minutes later, flashing a smile filled with extraordinarily white teeth. Despite the 28C heat on this sunny day at the Cannes Film Festival, he’s wearing two shirts (a short-sleeved one over a T-shirt) and cotton jeans with holes in the knees.

The London-born actor’s heavily moussed hair, as always, looks like it has been styled by the fingers of ravaging fans of the Twilight books and films that have made him into a teen scream sensation.

“It’s completely nuts,” Pattinson, 23, says of his sudden global acclaim. “I had lunch in some restaurant the other day down the street and if you’re in a place for more than an hour, word gets out. There were like 500 or 600 people outside, watching and waiting for me.”

He is animated and engaging while speaking, quite unlike the pale and brooding vampire Edward Cullen he plays in Twilight, a 2008 hit, and its sequel New Moon, which arrives in theatres Nov. 20.

Which means he had to act the role, of course, and in Pattinson’s case he used the approach of a method actor, trying to move the way a vampire does. The feat was complicated by the desire of director Catherine Hardwicke, the film’s producers and Twilight novelist Stephenie Meyer that Pattinson not act like the typical neck-biting bloodsucker.
